Entire letter from Campo Mento carried on the 'Ripon' under Captain Moresby, to Basingstoke with Gibraltar despatch cds in black and good strike of two line 'GIBRALTAR/ SHIP LETTER' in black. Charged “8d.” due on receipt with Basingstoke arrival (May 29) in blue. Interesting content regarding Provisions “to be sent addressed to the Admiralty Office, Southampton and they must not be addressed to Mr. Creswell (Gibraltar's Postmaster) at all”.

Charged “8d”. due on receipt with Chudleigh arrival (July 11) on front and London transit on reverse.

Red manuscript '8' denoting single rate of 8d. prepaid, reverse with framed 'Liverpool/Ship' (June 17) and arrival cds. Displays well.

Red 'Via/Di Mare/(E)' applied on arrival and manuscript charge of “30” centesemi to pay.

Reverse with Huddersfield arrival cds (Dec 3). A scarce and interesting first issue cover. SG 1,2.

Great Britain ½d. + ½d. brown Postal Stationery reply card up-rated with ½d. vermilion tied by CHESTER squared circle, used to GIBRALTAR with reply partly paid by further GB ½d. vermilion on reverse tied by GIBRALTAR-A26 duplex in combination with 1889-95 10cs. rose tied by GIBRALTAR-SOUTH DISTRICT cds (Feb 27) with manuscript annotation "Noted ½ Stamp returned of no value as Postage in Gib". Scarce and most unusual usage.

(Credit to G.P.O., with 5d. to the Colony), two Axim cds's in black. Liverpool and London June 2 registered arrival datestamps also on obverse of fine and rare cover, one of only three recorded by Sacher, page 197.
