✉ GIBRALTAR. 1827. CHICLANA (Cádiz, Spain) to MALTA. Entire letter sent via the British Consulate at Cadiz. B.C./CADIZ mark and fine red GIBRALTAR arc. At this time Cadiz was blockaded by French Ships, the British Packets could not call at Cadiz to collect mail. Instead it was courriered to Gibraltar for onward transmission. Charged "6" on arrival. A VERY RARE cover, only two known with both marks.

London transit cds in red (Dec 1) and Cape Town/Cape Colony cds of receipt (Dec 31) both on obverse of cover, alongside handstruck 1d. Captain's fee marking. Some toning but a charming 1/5d. rate cover. SG Z19,Z37,Z64.

✉ COSTA DE ORO. 1843 (Jan 30). Entire letter from Cape Coast Castle, written by B. Watkins to London (in copper-plate writing hand); rated 8d. for ½ ounce rate, struck on reverse with framed "HASTINGS / SHIP LETTER" in black (Robertson S3) and London cds of arrival in red April 14. A fine and rare entire, unlisted by Sacher. Interesting content describing the journey South on the "Medora" and the storms in the Bay of Biscay and being becalmed at Cape Verde, meeting Mr. Brooking who had just returned from Kumasi. "T. B. Freeman has been some time absent from home on a visit to Badagry.

Entire letter written from "Keta" (Kwitta) addressed to Bremen "care of Charles Young Esq., 8 High Street, Islington, London" with long letter in German carried privately to London. Forwarded Sept 19 in London and endorsed by the Agent "Via Ostend", charged 10½d. in sterling to pay and 48gr. in red on receipt. Only 3 entire letters have been recorded by Sacher, this letter listed on page 87. Extremely rare and fine entire of great rarity to both Gold Coast and Bremen philately.

✉ COSTA DE ORO. 1871 (Nov 5). Envelope, embossed seal 'Spero' on reverse addressed from D. Patrick Chalmers to Edinburgh with superb "CAPE COAST CASTLE" code A (Macrae 7), datestamp in black of despatch. Rated "5" pence in red manuscript due to G.P.O. for ½ ounce rate. 'Paid / Liverpool / Br. Packet' cds in red of transit (Nov 29) and reverse with Edinburgh arrival cds. Very scarce: the datestamp in black was used on prepaid letters until Nov. 1871 only; thereafter on unpaid letters. Biro marks at left, nevertheless rare and attractive cover, unlisted by Sacher.

Patrick Chalmers, with superb "PAID AT CAPE COAST CASTLE" double ring cds in red (Macrae 8). Rated "5" pence in red manuscript due to G.P.O. for ½ ounce rate and "1" penny inland. 'Paid / Liverpool / Br. Packet' cds in red of transit (Dec 2) and reverse with Edinburgh arrival cds. Very scarce: the datestamp was issued to the Colony in October 1871. Biro marks at left, nevertheless rare and attractive cover.

A rare and appealing cover.

Cover to NEATH (Wales) endorsed 'via Marseilles' franked by scarce 1860 8p. mauve on blued, 1865 2a. orange and 1866 4a. green all tied by '224' numeral obliterators with MURREE cds below. Framed INDIA/PAID in red and reverse with Lahore transit in red (July 3), Bombay cds and Neath arrival cds (Aug 21). A fine and scarce cover.

Cover to PARIS franked by single 1866-1878 4a. green tied by NUMERAL OBLITERATOR and manuscript, underpaid with circular "T" mark in black (an adhesive was applied and had dropped off). The "T" mark erased in red crayon and reverse with SEA POST OFFICE-B cds and Paris arrival. Manuscript PAID 60 cts. at lower left of an unusual cover.
