✉ SENEGAL. Ce. 23. 1876 (June 26). Cover and original contents written from DAKAR to BEAUNE (France) franked by Military Concession rate with Ceres 1872-77 25c. blue tied by CORR. D'ARM.-LIG. J. PAQ. F. No.1 with repeated strike alongside. Reverse with Officer's signature and manuscript "Correspondence Militaire" and arrival cds (July 6). A rare entire with interesting contents.

✉ TAHITI. 1846 (Jan 28). Entire letter from a sailor on board the 'H. M. S. Grampus' (a 74 gun third-rater) at Tahiti to Oxford, charged 2sh. due on arrival with London red cds (June 10) and Oxford arrival in black of the following day. Much interesting content with writer about to become a Midshipman (however he wishes his father had made him learn Euclid, as this was a possible reason for failure in the exams), receiving supplies from a Chilean Brig from Valparaiso, the death of the pro-French Queen Pomare IV etc. A rare early letter, journey time 164 days.

Framed 'R' at left and repeated cds. Reverse with LA REUNION A MARSEILLE/L.U.NO.3 transit (Nov 27) with arrival (Dec 14) alongside. A very rare single franking.

Stamps tied by numeral "87" cancel, with MANNHEIM cds alongside. Front shows scarce B.3.K. BADEN debit marking, red octagonal BADE STRASB. / AMB. F. French entry cds, scarce FR/1 F76c FRANCO-BRITISH accountancy marking, plus READING arrival cds, and manuscript "1/" postage due marking. A rare mixed issue cover showing an exceptional array of scarce transit markings.

Each stamp cut tightly and touching as is usually the case with this correspondence. Fine and remarkable franking using two 18 kr. stamps. Cert. BRETTL.
