✉ GRAN BRETAÑA. 1840 (Aug 28). Entire letter used within LONDON, franked by fine 1840 1d. black, pl.7, lettered CD, tied by neat red MALTESE CROSS. Found to be over-weight (due to an enclosure) and struck with circular MORE TO PAY in black and manuscript '2d.'. Despatch cds on reverse in red. A fine and scarce entire. SG 2.

✉ GRAN BRETAÑA. 1847. Envelope to FRANCE bearing SG 8a, 1d brown (imperf four margins) cancelled by LIVERPOOL NUMERAL, routed via London with French entry cachet in red, COGNAC arrival, tased "14" erased and charged "13". Very fine item of mail, a scarce franking overseas.

Con el siguiente texto: ´My dear Sir: I have consulted the Officers here and they all agree in pronouncing Lord Byron´s frank & the Postmark perfectly genuine - Among those whom I have consulted is the late Inspector of Franks - himself a large collector of Autographs -. ✉ GRAN BRETAÑA. Ed. . 1850(April 12th). Entire letter from Glasgow to Pictou, NOVA SCOTIA franked for internal rate only with 1841 1d red brown tied ´159´ obliterator, charged 1 shilling in manuscript with Glasgow cds and Victoria-NS arrival (May 2nd) on reverse in black. A fine entire. SG 8.

✉ GRAN BRETAÑA. 1853 (Dec. 26). Entire letter prepaid to JEREZ LA FRONTERA (Spain), endorsed 'via Southampton, per Steamer to Cadiz' at top. London despatch in red on front and annotated prepaid at 2s. 2d. in red ink. The entire addressed care of 'Don Pedro Lembeye' in Cadiz who paid the '20 R.' charge and placed the entire with Spanish Private Courier Company with PAUSADELA / Y / COMPAÑIA cachet in red. An EXTREMELY RARE example of this combination of two (Public & Private) Postal Services.

Cover from Auchnacloy, Scotland to Sydney, NEW SOUTH WALES franked at 1s rate for ½ ounce letters via Falmouth or Southampton, with Embossed 1847-54 1s green, reverse with London red transits and Crown ´Ship Letter-Sydney´ arrival in black on reverse, with handstruck ´3´ in black on front. SG 55.

Fechador de la B.P.O. ARICA. Circulada vía Panamá y Londres. Marca de intercambio GB/2F 87 5/10 entrada por Calais el 6 de Enero de 1857. Pieza excepcional, se trata de la primera fecha de utilización de la marca de intercambio GB/2F 87 5/10 (la fecha de puesta en funcionamiento es partir de 1 de Enero). Sólo 3 piezas conocidas. Cover from Crewkerne to Constantinople, TURKEY endorsed ´ViaMarseilles´bearing single Embossed 1847-54 1s green tied by numeral obliterator and by Calais transit. Correctly rated for ¼ ounce but found to be over-weight and struck with ´Insufficiently-Stamped´ and charged ´26´ (decimes) due on delivery. Unusual and appealing cover. SG 55.

✉ GIBRALTAR. 1859-60. TWO covers sent to GRAT BRITAIN with 6d. lilac and 6d+6d lilac stamps tied by A26 cancel. Faults but fine presentacion.

✉ GRAN BRETAÑA. Ed. . 1860(Jan 7th). Cover to Copenhagen, DENMARK with 10½d rate paid by 1d red star, 1857 4d rose and 1856 6d lilac tied by London duplexes. Overpaid by ½d with manuscript ´6 ½ ´ in red of split charge, Hamburg transit datestamps on reverse and italic ´Franco´ in black on front. SG 40,66,70.

✉ GRAN BRETAÑA. Ed. . 1861(Oct 2nd). Cover to Lucon, FRANCE franked at 1s 8d rate (under 1¾ ounce rate) paid by 1856 1s green and 1d red stars (8) all tied by Hull-383 duplexes. Filing crease but a remarkable franking and scarce rate. Horizontal file fold. SG 40,72.

✉ GRAN BRETAÑA. Ed. . 1861(March 16th). Cover endorsed ´Via Southampton´ to PERU franked at 2s rate for ½ ounce via Panama bearing 1856 2x6d lilac and single 1s deep green tied by Glasgow-159 duplexes. Scarce franking, slight faults. SG 70,71.

Entire letter addressed to CANADA West, addressed to Captain in the Royal Canadian Rifles, franked at 6d rate for British Packet with single 1856 6d lilac tied by London obliterator. Struck with ´Forwarded´ on arrival and handstamped ´Unpaid-5´ and handstruck ´2´ marking with St.John´s arrival on reverse. An appealing and scarce entire. SG 70.

✉ GRAN BRETAÑA. 1863 (Nov 6). Wonderful and early blue printed advertising envelope for the "Daily Chronicle & Northern Counties Advertiser" mailed to HAMILTON (Canada West) with two 1862 4d. vermilion, one with small fault, tied by NEWCASTLE ON TYNE/545 duplex in black. Hamilton cds of receipt (Nov 21) on reverse of a rare and attractive cover. SG 80.

✉ GRAN BRETAÑA. Ed. . 1864(Sept 26th). Cover via Belgium to St.Petersburg, RUSSIA at 10d rate (under ½ ounce) bearing 1d red plate 78 and 1862 9d straw tied by West Hartlepool-023 duplexes and also tied by red ´Aus England per Aachen´ transit and blue ´Wfr.3´ handstamp (silver groschen credit). SG 43,87.

✉ GRAN BRETAÑA. 1864 (Feb 14). Superb Valentine's illustrated gold envelope used with 1d. red star tied by LONDON duplex. Complete original contents (also on gold decorative paper) with poem enclosed. Faults but a lovely item.

✉ GRAN BRETAÑA. Sg. 84. 1864. Entire letter to JEREZ DE LA FRONTERA (Spain), endorsed "Via France" and franked by 1862 6 d. lilac, lettered TF, tied by NEWTON ABBOT/567 duplex (Jan 11) in black. Red circular PD erased by London "50" obliterator in black and straight line INSUFFICIENTLY/PREPAID in black alongside. Transit of GIBRALTAR with cds on front (Jan 18) and eventual arrival on reverse with JEREZ arrival cds (Feb 10) and charged "4R" to pay in red. A rare and most unusual usage, the three week gap between Gibraltar and Jerez is difficult to explain.

Entire letter to Piura, PERU franked at 2s rate for under ½ ounce endorsed ´pr West Indian Mail via Southampton´bearing 1867 1s green plate 4 pair tied by Liverpool duplexes with British Post Office Panama cds in black and straight line ´Paita´ handstamp on reverse, displaying well. SG 117.

Cover endorsed ´Via Belgium & Italy´ to Tunis, TUNISIA franked at 6d rate with 1d red plate 119, 1858 2d blue plate 13 apparently cancelled in red crayon as cancel had date error and 3d rose plate 7 tied by London duplexes. Reverse with Livorno, Cagliari and Tunisi-Poste Italiane arrival datestamps. SG 44,46,103.

✉ GRAN BRETAÑA. 1872. Wrapper to Landscrona, Sweden, franked 2d. blue, plate 13, + 3d. plate 8, tied by Leith '221' duplex datestamp. Obverse also bears large red 2½ d. accountancy handstamp. On reverse, Copenhagen transit cds. Very fine.

✉ GRAN BRETAÑA. Ed. . 1874. Insufficiently prepaid letter franked with two penny reds, and sent to RUSSIA via GERMANY. Stamps cancelled by LONDON-1 duplex, and front shows British boxed UNPAID ( crossed out) and INSUFFICIENTLY/PREPAID handstamps, German boxed ´UNZUREICHEND/FRANKIRT´, red ´1 1/4´ British debit, and blue ´5 1/4´ German debit. Reverse bears VERVIERS/COELN and RIGA transits, plus PERNAU arrival cds and manuscript ´19´ kopek postage due marking. A rare cover with 1997 Van der Linden certificate.
