✉ AFGANISTAN. (1880 CA.). 1a. bright brick red on white paper, cut round example tied to reverse of native cover by three manuscript pen strokes. A fine and scarce usage. SG 115.
Lot 2
✉ ALBANIA. 1872. Cover ex the Bianchi correspondence from VENICE to SCUTARI (Albania) endorsed "via Trieste", franked on despatch by Italy 1863/65 60c. pale mauve tied by 196 dotted numeral obliterator with VENEZIA cds. alongside (Feb. 20). Erroneously marked P.D. and this deleted in red crayon and correct P.P. applied in black. Charged with Turkey 1868/72 irregular perf. Postage Due 1pi. brown and Postage 20pa. green on arrival tied by all arabic SCUTARI circular handstamp in blue (Coles & Walker fig. 3). Side flaps missing but a scarce and attractive cover. Signed A. Diena.

✉ ARGENTINA. 1863 (May 14). Stampless cover from BUENOS AIRES to ENGLAND struck with fine octagonal French Paquebot CONF. ARGENTINE-SAINTONGE in black, struck with scarce framed Anglo-French FR./2F 20c accountancy marking in London (June 19) and manuscript "8" (pence) to pay on arrival in Moreton in the Marsh. Edge wear but a rare usage.

La carta debió sufrir algún percance durante el trayecto ya que llegó a Génova sin el sello. A la llegada tasada con sellos italianos de 10 cts. (2) y 30 cts. (tira de cuatro). Rara combinación de franqueo.

✉ AUSTRIA. Sc. 27, 30. 1868 (Sept. 5). Cover from TRIEST to ROME with rare 16 kreuzer rate paid by 1867 2kr. yellow in a horizontal strip of three and a single 10kr. blue tied by oval TRIEST datestamps in black and by pen cross denoting full prepayment. Reverse with Venice transit and Rome arrival (7/9). A scarce cover. Certificate FERCHENBAUER.

✉ LEVANTE: CORREO AUSTRIACO. 1885 (January). Letter franked with strip of three 10Kr. Arms issue (1883), prepaying the 30Kr. letter rate to SIAM, prior to its entry into the UPU. Stamps tied by TRIEST cds., and reverse bears Napoli transit and red SINGAPORE/PAID datestamp. A very fine and scarce pre-UPU franking to a most uncommon destination.
