PIERRE to LONDON via British Packet bearing 15 cts. bister and three 40 cts. orange stamps (short margins) tied by MQE grill and red MARTINIQUE cds, showing red crayon "1/-" demoting the amount due to the G.P.O. Arrival cds on reverse. A very rare combination franking, probably the unique MARTINIQUE/PAID cds known.

✉ MARTINICA. Ce. 17. 1876 (June). Cover to FRANCE franked by unusual usage of General Issues Ceres 1872-77 5c. green on greenish-single, two pairs and a strip of five, all tied by MQE dotted lozenge in black. Reverse with LIGNE A Paquebot datestamp (June 11). A remarcable cover.

Caledonia) + 20 c. blue + 40 c. orange, all with margins in places, all tied (by indentation or to the cover) by mainly very fine Noumea dotted diamonds with fine matching boxed PD and fair to fine 2 ring NLLE CALEDONIE/*NOUMEA* cds alongside, but also unusually also having a fine handstruck "4" (decimes) arrival charge (for the extra Brindisi route charge) cancelled en route; presumably because the Marseille route had just become available again with the raising of the Siege of Paris? Very few covers have been recorded with the Eagle 5 c. value used in New Caledonia. Cert. I.F. BRUN.

Cover, probably mailed by serving Soldier in SENEGAL to GRAULHET (France) bearing soldier's concessionary rate franking of 1871-75 ceres 25c. blue tied on landing with MARSEILLE cds (May 8) with superb framed CORR. / DES ARMEES handstamp in red. Reverse with Marseille and Graulhet cds's. A scarce cover.

Reverse with octagonal COL. FR.-PAQ. FR. A. No. 3 in black and arrival cds. A remarkable cover. Signed Calves, Jamet. Certificate SCHELLER and SISMONDO. Ceres 5.

Formula card, slight vertical bend, used to Matirea, Tahiti franked by 1884 surcharged 'Tahiti/10c.' in black reading up on General Issues 1881 20c. red on green, tied by 'Papeete/Taiti' cds with repeated strike below. Extremely rare (cat $3'000 as a single franking). Certificates ROBINEAU and SISMONDO. Ceres 5. Scott 3b.

A rare mixed issue cover showing an exceptional array of scarce transit markings.

✉ GRAN BRETAÑA. 1851 (February 5). Cover from DUBLIN to ROME. Rate 1/7d for 1/4 oz, paid single, route via France. Franking 1841 1 d. red + 2 d. blue plate 4 strip of 6 + 3 singles, "186" diamond. Paid for Marseilles packet but sent overland by Huninguen VIA DI/UNINGUA. Cert. B.P.A. (2003).

✉ GRAN BRETAÑA. 1856. Double weight and fully paid letter from LEIGHT 25/10-1856 to HORTEN via Ostende, Hamburg Stadt Post Amt, The Royal Danish Post Office (K.D.O.P.A) to Christiania with Norwegian steamship, and to Horten with local ship. 2 sh. 8 d. franking with Victoria Embossed pair of 1/ and 6 d. and 2 d., corresponding to 70 Norwegian skillings (35 Lbs), "2" shillings (endorsed in red) British and sea postage to Hamburg. "12" (Lbs.) (endorsed), sum of credit to Germany and Denmark. The special franco marking was used to indicate fully payment for foreign letters when delivered from the Stadt Post Amt to The Royal Danish Post Office. Cert. B.P.A. (2008).
