✉ GRAN BRETAÑA. 1840 (Aug 28). Entire letter used within LONDON, franked by fine 1840 1d. black, pl.7, lettered CD, tied by neat red MALTESE CROSS. Found to be over-weight (due to an enclosure) and struck with circular MORE TO PAY in black and manuscript '2d.'. Despatch cds on reverse in red. A fine and scarce entire. SG 2.

Con el siguiente texto: ´My dear Sir: I have consulted the Officers here and they all agree in pronouncing Lord Byron´s frank & the Postmark perfectly genuine - Among those whom I have consulted is the late Inspector of Franks - himself a large collector of Autographs -. At the same time you are quite right as to the state of the Law, and the only explanation that can be given is that the Frank must have been passed by mistake - . Faithfully yours. Rowland Hill´.

✉ GRAN BRETAÑA. 1853 (Dec. 26). Entire letter prepaid to JEREZ LA FRONTERA (Spain), endorsed 'via Southampton, per Steamer to Cadiz' at top. London despatch in red on front and annotated prepaid at 2s. 2d. in red ink. The entire addressed care of 'Don Pedro Lembeye' in Cadiz who paid the '20 R.' charge and placed the entire with Spanish Private Courier Company with PAUSADELA / Y / COMPAÑIA cachet in red. An EXTREMELY RARE example of this combination of two (Public & Private) Postal Services.

Fechador de la B.P.O. ARICA. Circulada vía Panamá y Londres. Marca de intercambio GB/2F 87 5/10 entrada por Calais el 6 de Enero de 1857. Pieza excepcional, se trata de la primera fecha de utilización de la marca de intercambio GB/2F 87 5/10 (la fecha de puesta en funcionamiento es partir de 1 de Enero). Sólo 3 piezas conocidas. Correctly rated for ¼ ounce but found to be over-weight and struck with ´Insufficiently-Stamped´ and charged ´26´ (decimes) due on delivery. Unusual and appealing cover. SG 55.

Struck with ´Forwarded´ on arrival and handstamped ´Unpaid-5´ and handstruck ´2´ marking with St.John´s arrival on reverse. An appealing and scarce entire. SG 70.

Wonderful and early blue printed advertising envelope for the "Daily Chronicle & Northern Counties Advertiser" mailed to HAMILTON (Canada West) with two 1862 4d. vermilion, one with small fault, tied by NEWCASTLE ON TYNE/545 duplex in black. Hamilton cds of receipt (Nov 21) on reverse of a rare and attractive cover. SG 80.

✉ GRAN BRETAÑA. Sg. 84. 1864. Entire letter to JEREZ DE LA FRONTERA (Spain), endorsed "Via France" and franked by 1862 6 d. lilac, lettered TF, tied by NEWTON ABBOT/567 duplex (Jan 11) in black. Red circular PD erased by London "50" obliterator in black and straight line INSUFFICIENTLY/PREPAID in black alongside. Transit of GIBRALTAR with cds on front (Jan 18) and eventual arrival on reverse with JEREZ arrival cds (Feb 10) and charged "4R" to pay in red. A rare and most unusual usage, the three week gap between Gibraltar and Jerez is difficult to explain.

Stamps cancelled by LONDON-1 duplex, and front shows British boxed UNPAID ( crossed out) and INSUFFICIENTLY/PREPAID handstamps, German boxed ´UNZUREICHEND/FRANKIRT´, red ´1 1/4´ British debit, and blue ´5 1/4´ German debit. Reverse bears VERVIERS/COELN and RIGA transits, plus PERNAU arrival cds and manuscript ´19´ kopek postage due marking. A rare cover with 1997 Van der Linden certificate.
