A rare military cachet from the occupation.

✉ DAHOMEY. 1863 (March 5). Entire letter to MARSEILLE stating that the writer had been made Vice Consul of France for Dahomey & Porto Novo, mailed via British P.O. in LAGOS with Code B datestamp in blue (March 10), via London where 'GB / 1F 60c.' accountancy marking applied in black (April 11) and charged '8' décimes due on receipt in Marseille. A RARE entire.

Cover and contents, written from "Handeluku, Tuesday Aug 19, 1862" with contents mentioning '…was away in Gabon and Brother Mackey at the same time up the Muni among the Pangu's...of his detention and the robbery of his boat and goods we fear for his safety...' mailed on arrival in NEW YORK to NEW JERSEY, franked by 1861 3c. rose tied by rare DOTTED PAPER CUT obliterator (Type BN-P4) with NEW YORK cds (Oct 25) adjacent. A RARE and most interesting entire.

Entire letter to Paris from a member of the 5th Artillery Company with extremely scarce usage of framed 'PORT PAYE/Bsse Tre/GUADELOUPE' in black, endorsed at left 'Affranchie confie a L'Ordinance Royale-Grusse' and thus struck with red Brest entry mark on arrival (June 19). A very rare entire. Signed Pothion.

MILITARY cachet on reverse. Scott 11, 19.

Stamps canceled on arrival by MARSEILLE cds, and front shows red framed PAQUEBOTS/DE LA/MEDITERRANEE. Reverse bears MARSEILLES transit and LYON arrival. A very fine and unusual cover, as the 20c rate is unrecorded.

Registered military mail envelope to France bearing 10 c black (Yvert 35) and 30 c brown (Yvert 39) tied by FORT DE FRANCE CHARGEMENTS double ring with handstruck boxed registered and military cachet, signed by the Commander with octagonal CORRES D'ARMEES FORT DE FRANCE and BREST arrival on reverse. Superb item of military mail.

Picture post card of Rufisque, Senegal addressed to Mauritania with TAX handstamp and Mauritania postage due 10 cent red brown (Yvert 10) applied and cancelled by ALEG MAURITANIE double ring. A rarely offered postage due on card from this French West Africa colony. Singed Calves.

Entire letter to London from Tahiti with framed 'INDIA LETTER - DEAL' in red on reverse and London (Jan 25, 1839) arrival cds alongside; superb 'Paid Ship Letter - Sydney' oval on front in red (Sept 8) and various manuscript rates. A very fine and scarce entire, journey time 196 days. Signed Holcombe.

✉ POLINESIA FRANCESA. 1863. Entire letter datelined inside 'Iles Marquises, Taivhai, 9 Août, 1863', written to FRANCE and struck twice in transit with double arc PAPEITI / TAITI in black (Aug 18 on reverse, Aug 22 on obverse). The cover landed at Calais (Dec 16) and charged '9' décimes due on receipt. RARE and extremely unusual entire, very early correspondence from these remote Islands, using the French mail.

Framed 'PD' and TAITI (OCÉANIE) / PAPEETE datestamp at right (Oct 5). Mailed via the USA at the rare 1fr. 40 c. rate, backstamped at Bordeaux and re-addressed on to Bayonne. ✉ TAHITI. Yv. 12 (2) + 24 (3). 1893. PAPEETE to NOUMEA. 15 cts. blue pair and strip of three of two different issues with PAPEETE/TAHITI cancel. The envelope is somewat reduced at right due to roungh opening, the stamps are in perfect condition. Cert. S. SISMONDO.

✉ TAHITI. 1896. TAIOHATE (Isles Marquises) to AUSTRIA. 25 cts. black and red postal stationary envelope cancelled TAIQHAE/TAITI. FINE and RARE.

✉ TAHITI. 1899. Cover with contens, datalined HIKUERU small island (only 5,11 km2) located 700 km. east of Tahiti send with 10 cts. black and blue stamp (defects in origen) to TAIOHAE cancelled on arrival. A very rare cover probably the earliest known sent from this remote location of the French Polinesia.
