GIBRALTAR. Ed. . 1840 (1-ENE.). GIBRALTAR to LONDON. Cancellation GIBRALTAR/PAID type II in black and FOREIGN PAID in red, stamped in London. Manuscript rate ´1/-´. FIRST DAY OF USE OF THE NEW MARITIME RATE. Outstanding piece.

GIBRALTAR. 1844 (May 15). Entire letter from GIBRALTAR To COPENHAGEN, struck with three line E. GIB-S. ROQUE-ANDA BAXA in red, thence via St. Jean de Luz (May 23) and Paris to Thurn & Taxis P.O. in HAMBURG (May 31). A fine and scarce entire.

GIBRALTAR. 1848 (May 29). Entire letter from Campo Mento carried on the 'Ripon' under Captain Moresby, to Basingstoke with Gibraltar despatch cds in black and good strike of two line 'GIBRALTAR/ SHIP LETTER' in black. Charged “8d.” due on receipt with Basingstoke arrival (May 29) in blue. Interesting content regarding Provisions “to be sent addressed to the Admiralty Office, Southampton and they must not be addressed to Mr. Creswell (Gibraltar's Postmaster) at all”.

GIBRALTAR. 1848 (July 2). Entire letter to Chudleigh, Devon carried on the 'Euxine' under Captain Wilson, with Gibraltar despatch cds in black and fine strike of two line 'GIBRALTAR/ SHIP LETTER' in black. Charged “8d”. due on receipt with Chudleigh arrival (July 11) on front and London transit on reverse.

GIBRALTAR. 1851 (June 9). Outer letter sheet to Alnwick, Northumberland with fine strike of three line dated 'GIBRALTAR/9 JU 9 1851/ SHIP LETTER' struck in blue (Day, Month, Day, Year, Type III). Red manuscript '8' denoting single rate of 8d. prepaid, reverse with framed 'Liverpool/Ship' (June 17) and arrival cds. Displays well.

GIBRALTAR. 1851 (Nov 29). Entire letter to Genoa with superb strike of three line dated 'GIBRALTAR/SHIP LETTER' in blue (Day before Month in date, Type I) on despatch with manuscript '8' (pence) prepaid in red for double rate. Red 'Via/Di Mare/(E)' applied on arrival and manuscript charge of “30” centesemi to pay.

Scarce and most unusual usage.

Colour postcard (view of Gibraltar) to ZURICH, franked by 1889-95 10cs. rose, posted in Teneriffe and struck with "0" marking in violet (unaccepted) and struck with circular "T" and "10" alongside. Circular SOUTHAMPTON SHIP LETTER datestamp of transit (July 24) and taxed on arrival; with Postage Due 20c. tied by ZURICH cds. A fine and unusual card.
