✉ ALEMANIA ANTIGUOS ESTADOS: CONFEDERACION DEL NORTE. 1868 (April 28). Registered cover from HAMBURG bearing four colour franking of NGR 1868 ½gr. orange, 1gr. rose and 2gr. blue, with Prussia goldbeater's skin 10sgr. rose all tied by HAMBURG cds's. Slight faults but a rare usage. Scott 3-5 and 21.

Registered cover to Paris with delightful three colour mixed currency/issue franking of 1868 rouletted ½gr. orange and strip of three 1gr. rose with 7kr. blue (2, both overlapping the edge of cover) all tied by Frankfurt boxed and dated handstamps. Rare. Scott 3,4,10.

Dresden cds at right and straight line FRANCO. Reverse with Leipzig/Magdeburg TPO and Amsterdam cds of receipt in red (19/2).

Reverse shows ¦1307¦ Bureau de Passe cds, plus CANNES arrival datestamp. A scarce and colorful Registered letter under the 1872 Franco-German Convention.

On arrival the card was sent on to The Grange PO, Transvaal and 1898 ½d green applied and tied by Kenhardt cds. Variety of transits on reverse of most unusual card-reply half attached unused. Scott 59.
