ARGENTINA. 1874. Cover from BUENOS AIRES franked by Italy 'Estero' 60 c. lilac in a horizontal pair tied by small cartridge PIROSCAFI / POSTALI / ITALIANI in black with italic "Da Buenos Aires / coi Postali Italiani" in black. Underpaid for a double letter, struck with '9' handstamp and 1870 Italy Postage Due 40 c. and 50 c. applied and tied in Genoa (Nov 18) - the 50 c. meticulously restored by the Postal clerk to form a single stamp in order to defraud the Post Office. The cover with two chisel slits for disinfection against yellow fever. An exceptionally interesting cover and a most appealing item of Postal History in many different facets. Ex collection Magnani.
