Small envelope to FIFE (Scotland) annotated "St. Vincent, Cape de Verde Is." at left and "Officer's Letter, HMS Leopard" at base, franked for the ½ ounce Officer's rate with unusual mixture of Line Engraved 1d. red: three 1855 1d. red stars (SC, perf. 14, one with fault), and 1858 1d. red pl. 80 and two from plate 81, all tied by London '11' numeral obliterators on arrival. Despite the contemporary fault a remarkable usage from a most unusual Atlantic stopover.
