First French edition. ´The first coherent and thoroughly economic theory of the business cycle´, for which the author spent six months in Great Britain. It originally appeared in Russian in 1894 and served as master dissertation for Moscow University. ´There could scarcely have been a more masterly master´s thesis´ (Alec Nove in New Palgrave). Tugan-Baranovsky was the most important Russian economist of his time. He teached political economy in Saint Petersburg and in Moscow and in the words of Alvin Hansen ´he began a new way of thinking about the problem of business cycles´.
