Reverse with Milan transit and Winterthur arrival cds (28/10). Scarce and most attractive cover.

Rare and fine late usage, the Office closed on June 30, 1881.

Marginal piece with imprint 8 piastres similarly tied below and Bern cds on reverse. Flap missing but scarce.

NOTE: No mail flight was recorded on that day, but Vicomte De Sibour, in his Gipsy Moth, flew during that time all over Ethiopia under permission of Regent Ras Tafari. It is possible that he had cancelled the letter in Addis, then flew to Eritrea were he handed it over to a pilot friend for delivery in Rome. It was customary then.
