Cover initially sent from GUAYAQUIL to QUITO franked with 1881 5 c. blue tied by blue GUAYAQUIL/FRANCA datestamp, then forwarded to Ambato, the postage being paid by additional 5 c. blue (trimmed by scissors on two sides) tied by QUITO/FRANCA cds in red. A very scarce usage. Ex Funkhouser.

(2) y sello de Colombia habilitado "R" (defecto). Defectos normales en un envío de tanto peso. Excepcional combinación de franqueo.

POSTE EGIZIANE - COSTANTINOPOLI datestamp in black with repeated strike at lower left. Reverse with same type SMIRNE arrival cds (Aug 18). A rare and attractive usage.

✉ EGIPTO. Sg. 15a. 1872 (Oct. 22). Cover to WINTERTHUR (Switzerland) endorsed "via Brindisi" franked by Italy 1863 60c. bright mauve applied for onward transmission, tied by dotted numeral 234 in black with ALESSANDRIA D'EGITTO / POSTE ITALIANE cds alongside. Reverse with Milan transit and Winterthur arrival cds (28/10). Scarce and most attractive cover.

✉ EGIPTO. Sg. 47. 1881 (April 22). Entire letter from CHIOS to TRIESTE endorsed "via Pireo" franked by 1879 1pi. rose red tied by V.R. POSTE EGIZIANE - SCIO datestamp in black, repeated strike at left above fine sender's cachet in blue. Reverse with Trieste arrival cds (28/4) in black. Rare and fine late usage, the Office closed on June 30, 1881.

✉ EGIPTO. 1897. Postal stationary card 3 m purple upgraded with 1 m brown (pair) (SG 58) tied by LLOYD AUSTRIACO XLII datestamp in blue/green of the steamer "S.S. Habsburg" addressed to Germany with GIESSEN arrival. A rare cancel on the stamps and stationary of Egypt.

✉ ETIOPIA. Sg. 130+135. 1908 (Feb 10). Cover addressed (probably from) and to F. Michel in OLTEN (Switzerland) (Michel was a Postmaster in Addis Abeba), bearing surcharged March 1908 1pi. on ½g. red (Type II) and Nov 1908 1pi. on 1g. blue tied by ADIS ABEBA datestamp in black. Marginal piece with imprint 8 piastres similarly tied below and Bern cds on reverse. Flap missing but scarce.

✉ ETIOPIA. 1930 (15-III). ADDIS to ROME. UNRECORDED FLIGHT. Franked by complete set air provisionals type 3, arrival cds on back. VERY RARE flight not listed in Muller and N. Cape. NOTE: No mail flight was recorded on that day, but Vicomte De Sibour, in his Gipsy Moth, flew during that time all over Ethiopia under permission of Regent Ras Tafari. It is possible that he had cancelled the letter in Addis, then flew to Eritrea were he handed it over to a pilot friend for delivery in Rome. It was customary then.
