Outer letter sheet from LOANDA to LISBON with handstamp ´40´ in black struck in error as the 40 r. rate was altered to 50 reis in September 1861 and further handstamped with fine framed CORREIO CENTRAL DE LOANDA in black with further rate mark ´50´ (large type) above. LISBON arrival (23 April) on reverse in black. Some internal repair to cover but very scarce.

Cover sent to Breslau from Loanda, underpaid and found to be double rate (22 grams in manuscript) bearing Germany 1889 10pf. carmine pair tied by oval dated 'Deutsche Seepost/Linie/Hamburg-Westafrika/XI' in black. Further strike at left and manuscript charge '40pf' due double the deficiency. A scarce and appealing cover. Scott 48.

Orange Value Declared label and reverse with fine ESTAFETA DE CAMBIO-MADRID (June 12) and Bremen arrival cds alongside. A rare and interesting piece.
