✉ FRANCIA. 1840 (Aug. 14). Entire lettre from MAURITIUS to BORDEAUX endorsed "per Le Pondichéry" and struck with MAURITIUS-POST OFFICE cds in red (faint) and framed PAYS D'OUTREMER in red alongside PAUILLAC-BATEAU A VAPEUR in red (April 14). Salles three or four pieces known in this colour. A rare usage of this entry marking.

✉ MAURICIO. 1843 (June 8th). Autograph letter signed by A. Thom, 8 June 1843, addressed to Stokes on board "The Beagle" at PORT LOUIS (Mauritius), four pages 4to envelope. Thom writes on his work in tracing the movement and behaviour of the recent hurricane in the vicinity of Mauritius, and begs Stokes to await the conclusion of this work before he places the matter before the Admiralty. He comments on the ignorance of the ships' masters involved of the true nature of the hurricane, on the slow movement of the eye of the hurricane, and on the correct course of action for a ship caught in it. Stoke and "The Beagle" were returning home from their survey of the coasts of Australia. An important and historic item with the famous discovery ship "H.M.S. Beagle".

✉ MAURICIO. 1861 (July 3). Entire printed Prices Current mailed from PORT LOUIS to COPENHAGEN, franked by 1860 2 d. blue tied by smudged B53 obliterator in black, sent via Marseilles (Aug 10) and struck on reverse with THURN & TAXIS and DANISH PO datestamps (Aug 13) in black and COPENHAGEN arrival cds of the following day. Charged "11 skilling" due in manuscript on front of a fine and appealing entire. Rare printed matter rate and unusal destination.

✉ MAURICIO. 1867 (Sept. 18). Cover and complete contents written from PORT LOUIS, MAURICE, (ANCIENNE FORT DE FRANCE), sent unpaid to FRANCE and struck with fine circular COR. D.ARM / LIG.T.PAQ.FR.No.1 datestamp in black of the same day. Handstruck "30" due marking applied, with Paris (Oct 25) arrival on reverse of a charming and rare entire that displays well.

✉ MAURICIO. 1903 (Dec 23). ): "The Eastern Telegraph Company" envelope registered use to REUNION, franked on reverse with 1899 Labourdonnais 15c. blue and pair of 1902 6c. purple & carmine on red pair tied by MAURITIUS cds's and by ST. DENIS-REUNION arrival (Dec 25). A fine and scarce cover. SG 136,146.

✉ NUEVA ZELANDA. 1857. COOK ISLANDS. Entire letter datelined at top "11 Mars 1857, Mangia" addressed to the Governor of TAHITI in French, letter mentions the Brig Ocean under Captain Lyons, with three further pages of the entire ending in instructions that the letter would be handed to the Captain who was to return to Tahiti from Mangia after the journey. Rare and very early entire from this remote outpost.

✉ NUEVA ZELANDA. 1887 (July 23). ½d. red on buff postal stationery Newspaper wrapper, used to BASEL (Switzerland) (endorsed "via Rio de Janeiro"); franked additionally by 1882-90 ½d. rose red, 1d. rose and 1d. pale lilac all tied by WELLINGTON cds's. Reverse with Basel cds of arrival. A fine and scarce three colour franking.

✉ NUEVA ZELANDA. 1893 (Jan 6). GB 1d. red Universal stationery card with message (and reply) on reverse written in Shorthand; mailed from Liverpool with unusual Low Hill/466/Liverpool datestamp to Dunedin, New Zealand. Sent back to Liverpool from Dunedin with New Zealand 2½d. blue tied by squared circle with lower left showing "Out 37 days/Home 45 days". A delightful usage.

✉ NIGERIA. 1894 (23 May). Envelope registered to BIRMINGHAM, bearing 1892 5 d. dull purple and blue and 1894 (Jan.) 1 d. pale blue and 5 d. grey-lilac, all tied by OLD CALABAR cds, showing large "R" h.s., REGISTERED/OLD CALABAR d.s. and REGISTERED LIVERPOOL transit d.s. (25.6). Neat and attractive.

Registered cover to LONDON franked by 1894 1d. pale blue, 2½d. carmine-lake, 5d. grey-lilac and 1sh. black all tied by OLD CALABAR RIVER cds's in black with oval registered datestamp below. Liverpool transit (Aug 12) also on front of an attractive cover.

(25.1.97) with arrival cds on reverse. Attractive.
