Front of letter from ZAGASIK (Egypt) to KOLLEHA (Algerie) franked with one piaster Egyptian stamp to pay the inland rate for Alexandria (Ja. 3) where the French Consular Post Office added a 40 c. stamp paying the simple rate for France territories.

✉ FRANCIA. 1870. ALEXANDRIA. Letter from PORT SAID to MARSEILLE franked with one piaster stamp (2), tied by the Egyptian P.O., to pay the double internal rate to Alexandria where the French P.O. added 40 c. (2) stamps paying the double rate for sea carriage.

✉ GRAN BRETAÑA. 1871. ALEXANDRIA. Letter from CAIRO to NEW YORK unpaid the Egyptian inland rate as in 1859/73 in Cairo operated a British P.O. that forwarded the mail to Alexandria by private courier. It franked 10 pence (6 d. for England + 4 d. for sea carriage).

✉ ITALIA. 1871. ALEXANDRIA. Letter from ROME to SYDNEY franked with V. Emmanuel D.L.R. 40 c. (2) to pay the 80 c. rate carried via Foggia to Brindisi arriving in Alexandria; then by railway to Suez to be embarked for Calcutta and Ceylon. The Suez channel was inaugurated on November 1869 but was operating only on October 1872. In the meantime the Indian mail continued to be carried to Suez via Alexandria.

✉ EGIPTO. 1875. ALEXANDRIA. KHEDIVIAL LINE. Letter from CONSTANTINOPLE to CAIRO. It was posted to the Egyptian Consular P.O. paying the U.P.U. 1,20 piaster rate with two Egyptian stamps tied by the circular mark V.R. POSTE EGIZIANE-CONSTANTINOPOLI 10 NOV 75.

Letter from CAIRO to NAPLES with the POSTA EUROPEA handstamp paying the inland rate to Alexandria where the Italian P.O. added the 80 c. rate for carriage by French Packets tied by the boxed mark PIROSCAFI POSTALI FRANCESI. ✉ FRANCIA. 1864. ALEXANDRIA. EGYPT LINE. Letter from MARSEILLE to ALEXANDRIE franked for 50 c. to pay the inland and maritime carriage. It was posted the same day on board of the French packet "Said" leaving Marseille for Alexandria, having the stamps tied by lozenge "anchor" mark and alongside the d.c. of the packet "MEINAM" instead of "SAID" by the postal agent.

✉ FRANCIA. 1868. ALEXANDRIA. MESSAGERIES IMPÉRIALES. Letter from CAIRO to MARSEILLE. It was handcarried from Cairo to Alexandria where franked to pay the single rate to destination tied by lozenge "anchor" mark and octagonal cancel ALEXANDRIE PAQ. FR. V. NR. 2-19 SEPT. 68.

✉ EGIPTO. 1868. ALEXANDRIA. MESSAGERIES IMPÉRIALES. Letter from ZAGAZIG to MARSEILLE overpaid the inland rate for Alexandria with a 3 piasters franking tied by POSTE VICE-REALI-ZAGASIK 21 FEB 68. The 3 p. rate, instead of 1 p. intended including the registration fee but, in any case in Alexandria was not added any franking and the French Post Office delivered it, unpaid for sea carriage, where on arrival was noted 6 decimes tax to be paid by the recipient.

✉ FRANCIA. 1870. ALEXANDRIA. EGYPT LINE. Letter Gazette des Absent n. 19 from PARIS to ALEXANDRIA franked for 40 c. to pay the inland and maritime carriage to Egypte. It carried by the "L'Archimede" Ballon monté out of Paris under Prussian siege. Cert. SCHELLER.

✉ FRANCIA. 1873. ALEXANDRIA. SYRIE LINE. FRENCH AND ITALIAN PACKETS. Letter from PORT SAID to BOLOGNA. It was posted on board of the "Syrie" line French packet with a call in Port Said, having the 40 c. stamp tied by the "lozenge ancre" mark and alongside the octagonal PORT SAID PAQ. FR. X n-4-3 Oct. 73. The letter had to be disembarked at the call of Naples of the "Syrie line" but cause of the cholera epidemic then current in Naples, it, at the call of Alexandria, was delivered to the Italian Post Office that embarked the letter on the Italian Packet "Egitto" of the "Rubattino Co." proceeding for Genoa with a call in Naples where was disembarked and receiving two fumigation cuts.

Victor Emmanuel DLR 60 c. stamp tied by the PIROSCAFI POSTALI ITALIANI boxed postmark. It, on arrival in Florence, after having added 10 c. rate, was reshipped, via Milan and St. Gallen (Switzerland) to Bad Kissingen (Bayern). RARE. Cert. DIENA.

It was embarked on the "Adriatico Orientale" Italian packet for Alexandria where, care of the British P.O. was forwarded to Suez to be placed on board of the "Peninsular & Oriental" British packet "SS Behar". On arrival paid 1 anna, noted by red crayon, for inland rate.

Letter from ALEXANDRIA to ALEXANDRETTE franked ROPiT 2 pi. having alongside the cancellation of Alexandria PORT ALEKSANDRIYA. ✉ RUSIA. 1871. ALEXANDRIA. ROPiT LINE. Letter from LATAKIA to ALEXANDRIA, franked with a pair of 1868 Levant 3 Kcs tied by triangle of dots in bleu. It was embarked on the Russian "ROPiT" packet. On reverse the rare ALEXANDREISKOE AGENTSVO ROPiT 17/3 1871 impressed on arrival. Cert. HOLCOMBE.

✉ FINLANDIA. 1847. ALGIERS. Unpaid letter from ALGIERS to JACOBSTAD-PIETARSAARI (Finland then Russian Empire). The domestic rate amounted 10 kopecs so, on delivery, the recipient paid the tax due 55,25 + 10 kopecs = 65,25 kopecs, noted by ink 65 1/4 on reverse.
