Cover from MADEIRA to LE HAVRE struck with fine FUNCHAL despatch cds in black, via London (Nov 28) where framed GB/2F Anglo-French accountancy marking applied in black. Rated with handstruck 10 decimes on arrival. Rare accountancy mark used on cover originated in Madeira.

✉ PORTUGAL: MADEIRA. 1898 (Sept 19). Unpaid cover from Madeira to Hamburg struck with superb strike of oval dated 'Deutsche Seepost/Linie/Hamburg-Westafrika/VI' in black. Manuscript 'T' in ink and charged 40pf. due in manuscript on arrival (double the deficiency).

Large registered cover to the 'Thatched House Club' in St. James's, London franked by extraordinary usage of 1911 50r. brown (no less than 19 examples) and 100r. dark blue (11 examples in a horizontal strip and a single) all tied by octagonal 'Beira' datestamps. Astonishingly one stamp is missing but a remarkable cover. Scott 81,83.
